B A L A N C E

We have met so many new friends through this adventure. Some that we knew before and just know better now. Strangers that have reached out to offer kind words of encouragement. Long lost friends that through this being public have contacted us and stirred up fond memories. Also topping the list are other individuals sharing in the same wonderment of aplastic anemia and the uncertainties that come along with.
I have stood in amazement, sadness, happiness and awe at the trials that we are asked to bear.

The trials are different...but the expectation from God is the same. We must endure well.

From a worldly stand, how unfair and questioning often circle in one's mind and in conversation. If we truly take a moment to contemplate the actions of our questioning, we often realize the Lord's hand in our lives. I especially see the need to feel loved in those darkest hours, that can lead to bitter emotions of feeling alone. It is incredibly clear to me that there are only two directions to go from that place and that is wallow and self destruction or a peace found in the strength to help Heavenly Father help us. I hope to always choose the latter. Prayer anyone?  Of course there are those moments where it is just so difficult to think of the effort required on our part to make positive moments overpower. From minute to minute it takes a conscious energy to resist Satan's powerful temptations of self destruction and doubt. Think about it, in the times that we are under such immense pressure of life, are the moments we need to turn to the peace beyond or capacity, however, it is also the time that Satan knows we are the most vulnerable. I know that I rationally know this, however, in the middle of it all...wow, it can be tough.  Meditation anyone?

                                                Survival, endurance and hope.

The past few days have continued to have their up and down moments. Davis will have a lot of follow-up within the next week with CT scans, ENT, labs and the eye specialists. Decisions will be made as to the timing of a potential eye surgery to hopefully restore his eyesight in his right eye. He has managed to adjust quite well and can read large print and skunk everyone at video games. However, he looks forward to looking straight ahead again to see. So once again, day by day is our method of operation that seems to maintain the most balance among the physical, social and emotional factors.

I am so grateful that even as a 14 year old boy, and maybe there is no coincidence as to the tender age for this trial, that Davis has consistently and securely held to his spiritual balance.

We are hoping that Davis is feeling up to spending a few moments, and witnessing the amazing event in his honor tomorrow.  The anticipation and wonderment of watching it all unfold has been a source of inspired encouragement.  Hugs all around for the incredible efforts made by so many different individuals.  We can only possibly ever say thanks by promising to always look to serve our community and others in the future.

  1. Watching Davis fly in yesterday left me with a lump in my throat and unsolicited tears on my cheeks. It was a fantastic moment, and I am honored to have been able to see it.

You are a wonderful family who has taught me much about the why's and how's to live your life in adversity. Thank you.
