ARGENTINA, MENDOZA MISSION

The day in photos! Courtney and a friend went and performed baptisms at 6 am, at the Bountiful Temple, came home, dressed in missionary attire, ate breakfast and studied to pass the time until the mail was delivered.  We were in high anticipation of the arrival of Courtney's mission call on
November 7, 2012 !  We tried to only check the mail one time before it actually arrived.
We put the flag up at that time and an hour later the flag was down!

IT's HERE!

This is it, can we wait 6 hours to open it?

So excited!
Sister Courtney B. Cox

Family and friends gathered at the house, on Skype and by phone to hear the announcement of the mission call. A map had over 60 guesses as to where in the world she would serve!
Where will I be spending 18 months of my life?

Argentina, Mendoza Mission
When are you going?
March 27th 2013
Where in the world is Argentina?
And does it have GF food?
Will you get mail?

...and by phone!

Saying hi to all the extended family and friends
on SKYPE...
I'm going to miss you!  Hey bud, I don't leave
for 5 months...I know, I'm just going to miss you!

We couldn't be more proud of Courtney!
What an amazing privilege to have the experience of
preparing for a missionary to serve.
Sister Courtney Cox, you have been called to serve in the Argentina, Mendoza mission.  Please report to the Provo MTC on March 27, 2013

CONGRATULATIONS               HERMANA COX!
                      WE LOVE YOU!

Moving Forward

Today's inspiration comes from an overheard conversation between a four year old patient and his mom.  each time we enter the halls of the hospital there are numerous stories to be seen, heard or quietly observed.  Today was no exception.
As he struggles to walk and keep up with his mom, as they walk down the hall, the boy with the walking aid states in a discouraged yet tender voice; "but mom, it's just too hard to keep walking."  The mom simply replies; "but look at you bud, you are moving forward today and we are not going backwards, good job.  I know it's hard, but it is so good to keep moving forward."  The boy quickly says, "okay, I know!"  and he continues down the hall!

This week has been one of moving forward, not necessarily as a whole but at least from the past few weeks and the most recent set back.  It has been 15 days and counting since the last transfusion of blood or platelets.  Yesterdays numbers were borderline, however, he felt like he could make it through the weekend.  It amazes me just how in tune this boy is now with his body.  He can for the most part feel and know when he is hitting low hemoglobin and or Hct as well as when the med toxicity begins to hit.  The goal is to have as few transfusions as possible to allow for his body to begin producing the healthy cells on it's own and lower the risk of rejection if ever he has to have a non-related donor marrow transplant.
We smile as we overhear the tender conversation and move forward with our day.

Halloween was fairly regular.  Besides 2 days of labs trips and one day of quick clinic, we have been home all week!

We had fun with family as we make a much needed outing together!

Where is WALDO? I mean Ryan?
We had a fun visit with great grandma Wintle!

Halloween Carnival!

Courtney prepares to submit her missionary papers and they say we will know 10-17 days where she will be serving!!!! Courtney was so excited to have a FHE and share an article in the Ensign on how places are chosen for missionaries!  It was a tender spirit as she focused on getting just the right candid snapshot that the brethren would look at and say, Hello, Sister Cox!  Now where will you be serving the Lord?

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly...and The Good!

Often times you have to stop and look at all the good things in the midst of the not so...I feel like we are making an effort to do that on a daily basis, however, there are just sometimes that you have to let loose, get it out and say it all...the good, the bad and the ugly...wrapping up with the good of course!  I find myself snapping photos(mainly because I just broke into the world of an I-phone and yes, I love it!) to capture ALL the activities of our days.   I feel like when I look back on the photos it gives me opportunity to truly process, reflect or cherish the moment in a way that in the middle of it all is nearly impossible!

***Although it IS Halloween time, I must include a disclaimer that a few of the photos in the bad or even ugly category may not sit well if you have a weak stomach!

Freedom to walk the halls

Bad days when the stomach pain is so desperate that he is doubled over most of the night and into the day.  Then somehow with all the efforts in place he gets an hour or two of reprieve.  It's amazing still, the hope in those moments of less symptoms how we unconsciously let our guard down to feel some regularity and calm.  The calm can last for hours, or moments.  Tonight a few hours then settling in for bed and much needed rest, the bloody nose begins again.  Will it stop before too much is lost?  Does his body have enough reserve tonight, or will we head in for a transfusion.  Everyone else sleeping, Jeff and Courtney gone, repack the bag that was optimistically unpacked for the day!
