Anxiety of the unknown...and the known, at this point are overpowered by the pure joy at the thought of Davis playing ball again.
I reflect back at the tournament last year at this time and have a moment of bliss at the relatively carefree trip, and the not knowing what lie ahead. I am on my knees in gratitude at the guided hand that we experienced that weekend of safety through hikes, ball and traveling. To think just three days later...life was dramatically altered.Back to the present. Setting the scene. Davis' labs in hand, Ben's labs in a sack, and Emmi in person, in hand, for a visit to the Dr. office. I drop off Davis' labs with eagerness to hear the results and receive added comfort for the upcoming games. Emmi was out of school for a few days with an ear infection and now "something" else? Ben has also had some health issues recently, so I drop off his labs. As we wait, and wait in the all too familiar lobby, I try to stay in the present for all situations...not looking too far back and not looking too far forward. After an uncomfortable amount of time waiting, I hear my least favorite words, "we haven't forgotten you, Gayle(yes, we are on a first name basis) we just have to run things by the doctor personally before we talk to you." Experience speaking... not a comforting sign. My heart always has a moment of silence when the physician then personally walks out to the lobby to speak with you. The words possible and possibility are now heard in my head as probable. I pray my emotional and physical reserves are full and strong for the next issues at hand.
The Reader's Digest version is that we will do some more tests, however, we are in fact visiting Primary's specialists. So, basically for the first two weeks in a year Davis is stable enough that a trip to PCMC for him is not needed, however, we will be there with another child. Breathe. We say we are handed challenges when we get too comfortable in life?
Did I look like I was getting comfortable?
So, updates to come,(Deja Vu!! meaning "all over again", the experience of feeling sure that one has already witnessed or experienced a current situation), as we follow up with nephrology . We are not jumping too far ahead at this point into speculations. Ben has had some emotional moments over the past year with Davis and is highly tender, for obvious reasons, with Grandpa Cox and his health struggles at this time. He loves them both so very much. He is not wanting to talk about it much, well, not at all, and is a little nervous about all the tests to be done. Dare I say he is the least likely of my kids to follow the medical career. As a tough on the outside, but gushy on the inside, ten year-old-boy, the uncertainties seem to bring out every fear "probable," and the emotional exhaustion sets in. There is so much love in the smile of this little boy. He is known for his bear hugs that will all but knock you over if you don't brace yourself. He was a trooper today and had a fun time eating breakfast at the PCMC cafeteria and lunch at Wendy's on the way from one appointment to another. This boy loves his food! He would, however, love to talk about his recent birthday gift activity of the Harlem Globetrotters!
For now, Davis' labs looked amazingly stable for the third week in a row. YAY! So off to a ballgame or two! It was emotional for everyone as we begin the tournament in Logandale, NV at the very field that was the last place Davis played. Beautiful day, beautiful boy and batter up!
[HOPE] A Powerful Medicine
